Bradford GLF - Stand Together [All You Gay Women]

from Coming Out - Ready or Not [an LGBTQ+ Charity release] by Homo Promos

about

In its day, ‘Stand Together’ was as anthemic for the LGBT movement as ‘Glad to be Gay’ became subsequently.
Tom Robinson describes the electrifying effect it had when the police raided the conference disco:
“There was a dance, and we were all there, letting our hair down. And these cops showed up. They were used to people quailing in intimidation, especially poofs. So they wandered in and started staring around. And they got surrounded. They just, people stopped dancing and came and stood in a circle around them. So that they were hemmed right in. And suddenly it was them that was uneasy, not us.
Then the chant started. "All you gay women, all you gay men, come together, stand together." And they're just chanting it louder and louder and eventually these cops moved off and got back in their panda car and fucked right off. Driven out by a chanting crowd. Chanting that song.”

lyrics

All you gay women, all you gay men
Come together, stand together and each other's rights defend

There are ghettos in the city, some are black and some are white
Some you see and some are hidden in the shadows of the night
To be gay is to be fighting all the prejudice and lies
Which condemn us to be running scared and lonely all our lives

All you gay women etc

There are people in the cities and the towns throughout the land
Who are saying to themselves this is the time to take a stand
Workers, women, gays and black and white now opening our eyes
To the need to take control of both our bodies and our lives

All you gay women etc
